It's time.

The two party system is no longer for the people and by the people. We need a party that will speak for every day citizens. We need people in office who consider the people that elected them. I am proud of my country. However it is time to dissolve the political bands which have connected and now divided us.

Today I was asked, "well, what is the Independence Party against?" I answered, "Nothing." How can this be you ask? . When you are against something it is your personal opinion. The Independence Party is not about inflicting our opinion on others or fighting against something. That is every reason why the Republican and Democratic parties are failing our nation. Our Senate and House has no time to fight for the things the people who elected them want. They are far too busy looking over the opposite parties shoulder, trying to block new legislation, getting their pet projects into bills, giving breaks to their corporate buddies, ignoring the people that put them into office, and generally acting like fit throwing toddlers.

When exactly are they taking our opinions and wants into consideration? Do they really even ask us? Doesn't seem like it to me. I used to believe that the parties would take a look into the mirror and reform their ways. That time has passed however. I mean why stop? They are getting their salaries, their buddies are bribing them with stocks and more money then the average citizen can ever expect to see in their life. The greed and in fighting has become a tumor on our society, slowly draining us of life. It's time for surgery.
  • Most incumbents should be voted out. There are experienced people out there that can look at this in a new way.
  • All corporate financing of candidacy should be abolished, our elected officials should no longer be owned. No one person or company should be allowed to donate more then $100,000 to a candidate in any election. Social Networking is abundant and it's easy to reach people through free and less costly ways. It is ridiculous for officials to spend so much money campaigning when our country is in a financial downslide. I can think of thousands of ways to better spend all the campaign money they waste on advertising and propaganda.

We need fresh eyes. We need a new legitimate party, I am no politician but getting people to think this way is my current quest. We need to vote out all the people who have been greedily running, and ruining, our government for the last several years.
  • We need younger people and a diverse group to tackle our problems with new eyes. It is impossible to represent the United States as a whole if 78% of Congress are middle aged caucasian men. We need to think outside the box that our government has placed us in.
  • This is the information age, why do we not have complete transparency in our legislature? All legislation should be posted online for one week and voted on by the American people. We are no longer the illiterate, spread out, horse riding, citizens of the past. We should be given a vote as the parties are. I don't think Congress should be allowed to pass anything that 70% or more of the country is against. A citizen's veto if you will.
  • The electoral college should be abolished. It makes no sense to have representatives to go and vote for us. Again this is an outdated practice.
  • No one should ever be elected President of the United States contrary to the popular vote. Every vote should be counted, no matter how long it takes. This has always been very simple to me; if a vote was cast it should be counted. I'm pretty sure everyone sees the logic in this.
As we are building this party I ask that anyone who joins be open minded, able to debate without attacking each other, intelligent and innovative in your ideas, willing to compromise, and an active members of our society. If you don't care and it's too much trouble for you to vote, don't join. Apathy gets us nowhere. . For much more on this, visit our Facebook page and join the discussion.
